- Macroeconomics
- The study of the sum total of economic activity, dealing with the issues of growth, inflation0 and unemployment and with national economic policies relating to these issues.
- Mafic
- Term used to describe the amount of dark-colored iron and magnesium minerals in an igneous rock. Complement of felsic.
- Magma
- Molten rock generated within the Earth.
- Major land resource area (MLRA)
- Major land resource areas are geographically associated land resource units delineated by the Natural Resources Conservation Service and characterized by a particular pattern that combines soils, water, climate, vegetation, land use, and type of farming. There are 204 MLRAs in the United States, ranging in size from less than 500,000 acres to more than 60 million acres.
- Malthusian Trap
- The minimum subsistence level to which humans descend as a result of geometric population growth and arithmetic resource growth.
- Mantle
- That portion of the interior of the Earth that lies between the crust and the core.
- Manure
- Dung and urine of animals that can be used as a form of organic fertilizer. See fertilizer, organic fertilizer.
- Marcroburst
- Large downbursts with a 2.5 mi or greater outflow diameter and damaging winds lasting 5 to 20 minutes.
- Marginal
- The additional or extra quantity of something. If one drinks six sodas in a day, the marginal soda would be the sixth soda.
- Marginal Cost
- The increase in total costs as one more unit is produced.
