Light-duty vehicles: Automobiles and light trucks combined.
Lightning: An electrical discharge from a thunderstorm.
Lignite: A brownish-black coal of low rank with high inherent moisture and volatile matter content, used almost exclusively for electric power generation. Also referred to as brown coal. See coal.
Likely: In probability of precipitation statements, the equivalent of a 60 or 70 percent chance.
Limestone: A carbonate sedimentary rock composed of more than 50 percent of the mineral calcium carbonate (CaCO3).

Liquefied natural gas (LNG): Natural gas converted to liquid form by cooling to a very low temperature.
Liquefied petroleum gas (LPG): Ethane, ethylene, propane, propylene, normal butane, butylene, and isobutane produced at refineries or natural gas processing plants, including plants that fractionate new natural gas plant liquids.
Litter: Undecomposed plant residues on the soil surface. See decomposition.
