- Antitrust Laws
- Designed to promote open markets by limiting practices that reduce competition.
- Aquifer
- A saturated geologic formation that can yield economically useful amounts of groundwater to wells, springs, wetlands, or streams.
- Arable land
- Land that can be cultivated to grow crops.
- Area-capacity curve
- A graph showing the relation between the surface area of the water in a reservoir and the corresponding volume.
- Aromatic
- Applied to a group of hydrocarbons and their derivatives characterized by the presence of the benzene ring.
- Artificial Recharge
- An augmentation of the natural replenishment of groundwater storage by some method of construction, spreading of water, or by artificially changing natural conditions. Used for reducing overdraft, conserving surface runoff, and increasing available groundwater supplies.
- Ash
- The mineral content of a product remaining after complete combustion.
- ASOS
- Automated Surface Observing System. Observes sky conditions, temperature and dewpoint, wind direction and speed, and barometric pressure.
- Asphalt
- A dark-brown-to-black cement-like material containing bitumen as the predominant constituent. It is obtained by petroleum processing. The definition includes crude asphalt as well as the following finished products
- Assets
- Any item that is long-lived, purchased for the service it renders over its life and for what one will receive when one sells it. What a person or business owns.
