Description
Abstract
This is an Arc/Info polygon and arc data set containing county boundaries in Illinois. Some county boundaries are also state boundary lines, Indian treaty boundary lines, township and range lines, or section boundaries and are identified as such. County polygons are labeled with county name and FIPS designation. Nominal scale is 1:62,500. This is only a subset of the original data set. It contains only counties in Illinois in which the Fox River watershed is located.
Purpose
This data set was created during Fox River Watershed Investigation project. This data set was created to serve as base map information at scales of 1:62,500 or smaller. These data are appropriate for use in local and regional thematic analysis. Data are not appropriate as a geodetic or engineering base.
Supplementary Information
Updates to the data: Edition 1.0 of these data were reviewed for internal logical consistency in March, 1998. As a result, several unneeded .AAT and .PAT items were dropped, tics were replaced, three dangling arcs were corrected and COVER-ID values were recalculated to be unique. See logical consistency report and process steps for March, 1998 for more details. The updated data set was edition 1.1. This edition (1.2) includes a new polygon ITEM (GISDB_DIR) added on 19990506.

Data were digitized from USGS 7.5 minute and 15 minute topographic maps available circa 1984. Range of dates of those source maps is unknown.

Attribute items are in typical ARC/INFO feature class format. ARC ATTRIBUTES: Arc attributes indicate line type. While Arc attributes exist in "coverage" format, they may not exist in "geodatabase" format. the Arc/Info defaults are: STATELINE - Indicates if arc is a part of the state boundary 1 - arc is part of the state boundary 0 - arc is not part of the state boundary COUNTLINE - Indicates if arc is a part of a county boundary 1 - arc is part of a county boundary 0 - arc is not part of a county boundary SECLINE - Indicates if arc is a part of a section line 1 - arc is part of a section line 0 - arc is not part of a section line INDLINE - Indicates if arc is a part of an Indian Treaty boundary 1 - arc is part of a an Indian Treaty boundary 0 - arc is not part of an Indian Treaty boundary TOWNLINE - Indicates if arc is a part of a township or range line 1 - arc is part of a township or range line 0 - arc is not part of a township or range line POLYGON ATTRIBUTES: Polygon attributes indicate federal FIPS codes and the county name for each county. Polygon items other than the Arc/Info defaults are: COUNT-FED-FIPS - the 6 digit federal FIPS code for state and county COUNTY_NAME - 16 character name of the county GISDB_DIR - The name of the directory in the ISGS GIS database that contains data for the particular County. This item is for internal use only. Non-ISGS staff can ignore this item. ** REDEFINED ITEMS ** CO_FIPS - the 3 digit FIPS code for the county ANNOTATION ATTRIBUTES: The county name for each county is annotated just below (in most cases) the northern county boundary. In some cases placement has been adjusted for a good fit.
