Aerial Flyovers of the Illinois River Watershed

Basic Steps

1. Use the map tool to zoom in to points of interest (indicated with red dots). All displayed streams have been flown (colored blue).
2. Click the "Select" tool and choose "Recon Points"
3. Click on a Recon Point to display the video file.
4. Close the Instructions box to position the Video Player Window closer to the map.

Navigation Tools

• Select Tool. Click the tool and select Recon Points. Click on the map to select a Recon Point.
• Full Extent Tool. Click the button to reset map to full extent.

Tips

• Recon Points are areas of particular interest to scientists at the Illinois State Water Survey. They represent “trouble spots”, or areas that warrant special attention.
• To better see stream labels, it may be necessary to temporarily turn off the Recon Points layer. Stream labels are dynamically placed on the map so they don't interfere with the Recon Points, but sometimes disappear altogether if crowded out. Toggling the Recon Points can be done by unchecking the box next to Recon Points in the Viewable Layers --> Aerial Recon folder under the map.
• Full-length videos are available for entire stream reaches. To view them, click the View Full-Length Videos link.
