The use of maps and Geographic Information Systems (GIS) for watershed management has increased dramatically during the past decade. Decision-makers in the Illinois River Basin use maps to effectively manage Illinois' natural resources, and to minimize the negative impacts caused by human-induced changes to the landscape.
