Description
The Lake Michigan watershed is located in northeastern Illinois along the Lake Michigan shoreline. With drainage from three counties, the Illinois portion of the watershed has a total area of approximately 90 square miles. Although the watershed is the smallest major watershed in the state, it also has the highest population density, averaging nearly 7,000 people per square mile. Residential and urban areas are the primary use of land within the watershed with some forests scattered throughout the area.
