Petroleum assessment funding will be used to conduct an assessment of the west-central portion of the site.

EPA has selected the City of Freeport for a brownfields assessment grant. Grant funds will be used to conduct assessment activities at sites within the Rawleigh Complex Redevelopment Corridor, which has had many industrial and manufacturing uses because of its proximity to rail lines. Grant funds also will be used to conduct redevelopment planning and community outreach activities.

EPA has selected the City of Rockford for a brownfields assessment grant. The city will use the funds to perform Phase I and Phase II site assessments at properties that are contaminated with hazardous substances and petroleum within the Barber Colman Village and the Davis Park Corridor Enterprise Zone. Rockford also will use grant funds to conduct community outreach activities and coordinate brownfields reuse planning activities at sites along the Illinois 251 Corridor.

EPA has selected the City of Sterling for an assessment grant. The city will use grant funds to conduct assessments at priority sites within the Rock River Redevelopment Area that are contaminated by petroleum or hazardous substances. Grant funds also will be used to conduct a site-wide groundwater investigation and to conduct community involvement activities.

EPA has selected the Town of Cicero for a brownfields assessment grant. Hazardous substances grant funds will be used to conduct community outreach activities, inventory and prioritize brownfields sites located within the 1.2-square-mile target area, conduct Phase I and Phase II site assessments on selected sites, and develop cleanup strategies for sites selected for redevelopment.

EPA has selected the Housing Authority of the City of East St. Louis for a brownfields assessment grant. Grant funds will be used to conduct public outreach activities and perform Phase I and Phase II site assessments on riverfront parcels along the Mississippi River. These activities will contribute to the city’s master plan to revitalize the East St. Louis riverfront.

EPA has selected the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity for a brownfields assessment grant. Grant funds will be used to identify, inventory, and select brownfields sites from within the Northwest Illinois Economic Development Region for further study. Funds will also be used to facilitate site characterization activities and lay the groundwork for a sustainable development plan.
